This coming Wednesday, June 13th,... South Korea will hold local elections,... and with just three days to go, rival parties are campaigning across the country.
The ruling Democratic Party of Korea concentrated its efforts today in cities near the capital,... while the main opposition Liberty Korea Party is campaigned in the central Chungcheong-do Province.
Some 4-thousand positions are up for grabs,... including the posts of mayor and governor of 17 metropolitan cities and provinces.
It's the first nationwide election under the Moon Jae-in administration,... so the outcome will be a barometer of public sentiment towards the government.
Meanwhile, the 2-day early voting period came to an end on Saturday,... with voter turnout overall... at 20-point-one-four percent.
It was the second highest turnout since early voting was introduced five years ago,... behind last year's presidential election, which saw 26 percent of voters cast early ballots.
Early voting was a little higher in the 12 districts holding by-elections for parliament... at 21 percent.
