John McCain: How did Vietnam change you?

In Vietnam, McCain realized he missed Americas company.

John McCain: Well I didn't come back a very different person. But what I did was I fell in love with America because I was deprived of her company. And I began to appreciate the wonder, and freedom, and liberty that we enjoy. In my time in prison I was privileged to observe 1,000 acts of courage, and compassion, and love. And the ones I served with -- the ones I know best and love most and . . . When people assume that it was all a terrible experience it's not true. Because the dearest and best friends and comrades I have in my life are those that I had the privilege of serving with, and those that inspired me through their leadership to be capable of things that I otherwise not . . . would not have been capable of.
