Written by City News Service -A speeding motorist trying to evade deputies ran a red\r
light and crashed into another car, killing the innocent woman and all three\r
people in the suspects car.\r
The collision was at South Wilmington Avenue at West Greenleaf Boulevard\r
in Compton, where a red Grand Prix was being pursued westbound on Greenleaf\r
by Los Angeles County Sheriffs deputies, said Lt. Michael Hanneman of the\r
Sheriffs Compton station.\r
About 12:25 a.m. deputies responded to a call of a shooting in the 100\r
block of East Indigo Street, locating some witnesses and evidence at the scene.\r
Witnesses described the suspect vehicle as a red sedan, possibly a Grand Prix,\r
according to the Sheriffs Department.\r
Additional deputies located a possible suspect vehicle and conducted a\r
traffic stop. The suspect vehicle stopped, but as the deputies exited their\r
patrol car and approached on foot, the suspect drove away.\r
Deputies pursued the suspect Grand Prix for about five minutes,\r
eventually west on Greenleaf Boulevard. The driver ran the red light at\r
Wilmington Avenue, deputies said, and hit a northbound a Monte Carlo sedan on\r
Wilmington Avenue.\r
The force of the imp flipped over the Grand Prix, which caught fire\r
as it was airborne, before landing in the yard of a nearby house, Hanneman\r
said.\r
The Monte Carlo crashed into a power pole and its occupant, identified\r
as an African-American woman in her 30s, was trapped, he said.\r
Firefighters cut open its roof in an attempt to rescue the woman, but\r
she died there, Hanneman said.\r
The three males in the Grand Prix were killed in the fireball.\r
The pursuit lasted about five minutes, Hanneman said, and ended with the\r
suspects vehicle unrecognizable.\r
``It looks like a burned-out husk thats upside down right now, he\r
said. ``It has damage to it both by fire, and by the crash.\r
He said the suspects had not been identified. LOUDLABS NEWS
