Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal says his young defence "can do better" after being forced into changes following an injury to Luke Shaw during their 2-1 win at Arsenal.

An own goal from Kieran Gibbs and a Wayne Rooney strike gave United the victory with the hosts grabbing a late consolation through Olivier Giroud.

It was United's first away win under Van Gaal.
