Owners of popular tourist attraction left stunned after discovering rare rock formation inside cave
  • 5 years ago
Wookey Hole Caves used more than three tonnes of explosives and thousands of detonators to smash through 1000 tonnes of rock. As a result of the work more than 70 metres of tunnels have been created - allowing public access to the spectacular caves. One cavern, which is now the largest at the attraction, features a stunning subterranean lake and breathtaking rock formations, included fluted rock which is baffling experts. Cave divers previously nicknamed the cave King Arthur's Beard because of the shape of unusual rock. Managers say the project, which is part of a £4 million investment, has been the most exciting development at the attraction in more than 40 years. More people have walked on the moon than in the vast underground caves, in Wells, Somerset, which were previously only accessible to divers.
