Thousands of people gathered in central Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, on May 31 to call on the government to resign over what they describe as political influence on a court verdict in a high-profile murder trial.Georgia’s chief prosecutor Irakly Shotadze resigned following the protests, according to Reuters.Two teenage boys, Davit Saralidze and Levan Dadunashvili, both aged 16, were stabbed to death in December 2017. Zara Saralidze, Davit’s father, was ejected from the courthouse after the verdict, and he alleges that Georgian authorities were protecting others who were involved in the killings, according to RFE/RL.
