Americans Hit The Shops As Unemployment Rate Plummets

U.S. consumer spending increased more than expected in April.
Consumer spending accounts for more than two-thirds of U.S. economic activity.
The US Commerce Dept. said it jumped 0.6 percent last month--the biggest gain in five months.
It's a further sign that economic growth regained momentum early in the second quarter.
Reuters reports inflation also continued to rise steadily.
Unemployment benefits applications dropped more than expected last week.
