U.S. slaps new sanctions on Iranian nationals, entities for 'human rights abuses'

The U.S. Treasury Department has levied fresh economic sanctions on Iranian individuals and organizations, including the militant group Hezbollah, on charges of human rights abuses against the Iranian public.
It is the latest round of punitive measures by the Trump administration and comes in response to the Iranian government's crackdown on student protests.
It also follows President Trump's decision to pull out of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.
Those on the list will be blocked from the U.S. financial system.
In a statement released Wednesday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Iran exports terrorism and instability across the world.
He also accused Tehran of diverting national resources that should belong to the people to fund a massive and expensive censorship apparatus and suppress free speech.
There was no immediate response from Iran, but it has threatened to continue its nuclear program if the nuclear pact is not salvaged.
