Next Media: Landslide blocks traffic on Malaysian highway
  • 6 years ago
Days of heavy rain triggered a landslide along a main highway in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Tuesday, causing massive traffic jams. The landslide hit the section of the Mahameru Highway one kilometre from the parliament building at around 5pm. The highway was undergoing stabilisation works which was scheduled to be completed in March, but according to the New Straits Times, the concrete replacement could not withstand the overflow of soil and debris. According to the Malaysian Insider, all lanes into Jalan Mahameru were closed down, causing massive traffic jams on the highway. The Star reported that a total of 13 fire officers arrived at the scene, and it took them five hours to clear the debris. — Reuters
