Inter-Korean military talks expected to be held early June to discuss ways to ease tension

As our Cha Sang-mi reported,.. inter-Korean military talks are expected to be held in early June.
Park Ji-won has more on the efforts to ease military tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Following the high-level inter-Korean talks on June first,... the two sides are slated to hold military talks in early June,... probably in the second week of the month.
A South Korean military source told Arirang News on Sunday that the inter-Korean military talks are expected to focus on ways to ease military tensions and to build trust on the Korean Peninsula.
The source said... one of the main items on the agenda this time is likely to be plans to hold such military talks on a regular basis.
Regular South-North military talks are expected to include a range of working-level military officials... from both sides.
The two Koreas have already agreed in the Panmunjom Declaration... that they would hold a general-level meeting in May.
But that meeting hasn't yet materialized, as the North canceled high-level talks scheduled earlier this month.
If the general-level military talks happen,... they will be the first of their kind since 2007.
Another main part of the agenda is expected to be restoring military communication lines between the two Koreas.
The military communication lines on the western part of the Peninsula were restored in January this year,... ahead of the PyeongChang Olympics,... but those on the eastern side of the Peninsula haven't been reconnnected... since they were destroyed back in 2010 by a forest fire.
The military communication cables include direct telephone and fax lines.
Their restoration would mean more open exchanges at the military level... with the aim of preventing misunderstandings.
