Biden: Republicans Are Hurting America With 'Phony Populism,' 'Fake Nationalism'

Joe Biden on Thursday slammed the Republicans during a speech.

In a wide-ranging speech at the New York state Democratic convention on Thursday, Joe Biden sharply criticized the Republican Party for its "fake nationalism."
CNN quotes him as telling the audience that many of our values are "under siege by this administration."
"This is not your father's Republican Party. This is a different deal. They are not -- they are not who we are. They are not who America is. But what they are doing is they're sending a vision of America that's distorted, that's damaging, that is hurting us. With its phony populism. And this fake nationalism," Biden added.
His remarks come as speculation continues to mount about him running for president in 2020.
"A tight circle of aides has been brainstorming a range of tear-up-the-playbook ideas for a White House run, according to people who've been part of the discussions or told about them," Politico reported in March.
One source told the media outlet that the former vice president is "thinking through a million unconventional options, because there is an acknowledgment that this could be an unconventional campaign."
In February, the Associated Press reported, based on several inside sources, that Biden had told members of his new D.C.-based diplomacy center that he was considering the option but "insisted he had made no decision, and didn't need to yet."
When Biden was asked about a potential run on ABC's 'The View' in December, he said, "If I were offered the nomination by the Lord Almighty right now, today, I would say no because we're not ready, the family's not ready to do this."
"If, in a year from now, if we're ready, and nobody has moved in that I think can do it, then I may very well do it," he noted.
