10 Catastrophes Caused by the Y2K Bug & What it Was | Nostalgia Nerd

The Y2K Bug, or Millennium Bug as it was known over here in the UK & Europe, was a problem which arose due to years being programmed into computers using 2 digits rather than 4. This meant that 99 was interpreted as 1999, but 00 was interpreted as 1900 rather than the year 2000. This problem was raised as a potential issue for computers and their associated systems around the globe and led to widespread ion, panic and fear mongering about the potential consequences. Including planes falling from the sky, missiles being launched, lifts being stuck, heating failing, electricity failing and all manner of scenarios which made us feel like we were about to enter an eternal dystopian winter from which wed never recover. The truth is slightly less harsh, after all, were still here. So join me for a recap of the Y2K bug and a look at what the bug ually did throughout the world.\r
