Why did children of a 70-year-old Varanasi woman preserve her body for five months?

The body of a 70-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi was kept hidden and allegedly preserved by her children for five months to continue drawing her pension. Amaravati Devi of Kabir Nagar area had been getting a monthly pension of Rs 13,000 since the death of her husband a few years ago. According to police, she had reportedly died around January 13 this year. Her children, however, concealed her death from neighbours and relatives and preserved the body with chemicals till an anonymous tip off to the police blew up their secret.
