Brutal assault on doctors at Mumbai hospital caught on camera

More than 400 doctors at an Indian hospital have gone on strike after relatives of a deceased patient attacked two medical practioners.

The doctors' strikes at JJ Hospital in Mumbai has entered the third day after started on May 19.

Shocking CCTV video shows men raining a volley of blows on one of the doctors and throwing furniture.

A 45-year-old patient, Zaida Sanaullah Sheikh, who was suffering from a gallbladder-related ailment, died on the night of May 18.

Her family members alleged that she died due to the negligence of doctors and beat up Dr Shalmali Dharmadhikari, 24, and Dr Atish Parikh, 32, who were on duty.

Parikh suffered a facial fracture in the assault.

The relatives caused damage and beat up two other staff as well.

The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) called an indefinite strike after the assault demanding increased security in hospitals.

Police arrested four members of Sheikh's family for the alleged assault.

"We have arrested four persons — Mohammed Shaikh, Sony Sanaullah, Rihan Sanaullah and Samila Sanaullah," said Senior Police inspector Shirish Gaikwad of JJ Marg police station.

But doctors said their strike would continue.

MARD chief Dr Sarang Donarkar said: “Despite repeated requests, there is no adequate security at the hospital. We will not call off the strike till our demands are met.”
