Crack open your Junior Woodchuck Guidebooks and lock up your money bins, because Disney released some HUGE DuckTales news today. So in this specialof Secret Screening Im going to share Disneys big DuckTales 2017 reveal, show how Nerdist completely bungled its reporting of that news, and share some news you wont see or hear anywhere else - secrets about the format of this hotly anticipated show straight from the Director of DuckTales herself, Dana Terrace!\r
\r
To say the cast is “epic” undersells who they were able to secure for the primary recurring cast. Theyre all that good. Ill start off with Donalds nephews. Louis, the green one, will be played by Saturday Night Live star Bobby Moynihan. Hubert, the red one, will be played by Community star Danny Pudi. And Deuteronomy, the blue one, will be played by the scene stealing star of Parks and Rec, Ben Schwartz. And yes, those are the boys full names.\r
\r
We learned that the coveted role of my personal favorite charer of the entire Disney Canon, Launchpad McQuack, would be played by Saturday Night Live player, Beck Bennett. Personally, I dont know Beck all that well, Im not as well versed in the more current seasons of SNL, but I do like what little Ive seen, and Im excited to see what he brings to the role.\r
\r
From there we learned that Kate Micucci will be playing Webby Vanderquack, whom you might better know as Oates from the internet and TV famous novelty song group Garfunkle and Oats, and Steven Universe fans will know her far better as the voice of Sadie. Kates got some serious voice ing chops, and Im really looking forward to seeing what Dana Terrace does with Webby. Whose charer previously could be described as “Wears pink” and “whines about not being included”. I mean, the publicity photos show Webby firing a grappling hook while hanging off the side of a Jeep! So my expectations are pretty high \r
\r
Also of note is the casting of Toks Olagundoye as the voice of doting nanny Mrs Beakley. Shes best known from her role as the alien Jackie Joyner-Kersee from the far too short lived ABC show The Neighbors, and Haley Skipton from the last season of Castle. Whats interesting about Toks casting is the very high probability of Mrs Beakley becoming British - and more of a no-nonsense authoritarian. Because if the kids are getting an upgrade, you better believe that theyll need a nanny on her toes to keep up with them.\r
\r
And that leaves the biggest reveal of all. Scrooge McDuck will be played by none other than David Tennant. Star of Fright Night, Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and some other shows people kinda remember, Tennant will be bringing something to the role never before seen in DuckTales! An ual scottish accent! Seriously though. While Alan Young brought a depth, complexity, and heart to the charer of Scrooge over the DECADES he portrayed the role, Tennant is one of the few ors I can conceive of that has the gravitas and nuance to step into Scrooges spats!
