From the 3 well crafted and creative goals scored inside the 1st 22 minutes at Craven Cottage in West London it appeared as if Moyes was making a statement of intent.

The travelling support were not so lucky however as injures combined with the need to rest players ahead of the coming week's Champions League clash at Real Sociedad meant that Fulham took their chance to step up and offer a performance in the 2nd half.

Early goals from the returning Valencia, preferred ahead of the faltering Nani - Robin van Persie + man of the moment Wayne Rooney opened proceedings + suggested a rout. And while Alex Kacaniklic brought one back for the Cottagers midway through the 2nd half, Martin Jol's men never looked likely to prize their way back in to the contest, despite Darren Bent's header hitting the bar.

MUFC (4-4-2): De Gea; Rafael (Kagawa 46), Evans (Fellaini 46), Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Jones, Cleverley (Smalling 46), Januzaj, Rooney, van Persie.
Subs: Lindegaard, Hernandez, Nani, Young
Goals: Valencia 9, Van Persie 20, Rooney 22
Bookings: Valencia
Referee: L Probert (Wiltshire)
