Karnataka throws up fractured mandate; PM Modi, Amit Shah tear into Congress

Karnataka has thrown up a fractured mandate. Even though the BJP emerged as the single largest party, it fell short of a majority. Minutes later the JD(S) backed by the congress staked claim to form the government in with the governor. Though the congress has agreed to give its unconditional support to the JD(S), sources tell NewsX that as many as 24 cong MLAs belonging to the lingayat community were not happy with Kumaraswamy as the CM face and may be unwilling to work together. Hectic parleys continued with Deve Gowda meeting senior party leaders late night at a hotel.
