DIY Loft Bed on a $100 Budget - Why Buy When you Can DIY Do It Yourself

Aspen wanted a loft bed to make more floor space in her room. Her dad came up with this design and built it for her for less than $100. Below is the entire shopping list including all the materials used to make each bed. To get 2 beds like we have, just buy twice as much of everything except for screws which should last. We used 2.5 inch screws.\r
\r
Legs\r
8 - 2x4x105” = 8 * 2.52 = $20.16 – I bought 105” 2x4 and left them that height because I have 120” ceilings. These were long enough and we decided to keep them this length.\r
2 – 2x4x92 5/8 = 4* 2.39 = $9.56 – These were cut into 4 sections 74” each. These were screwed into the bottom of the legs so that the long side of the bed frame is resting on supports.\r
Legs Subtotal: $29.72\r
Frame\r
2 - 2x6x12 = 2 * 6.38 = 12.76 – each board will make one 79” and one 55” section. A Full mattress is 54x75. I added an inch to these measurements and also added three inches to the length.\r
2- 2x2x96 = 2 * 1.75 = $3.50 – These were cut 76” long to run along the bottom of the long side of the bed frame.\r
1- 2x4x92 5/8 = 1 * 2.39 = $2.39 – This was also cut at 76” to run down the center of the bed frame \r
3 – 2x4x10 = 3 *$3.56 = $10.68 – These were cut into 6 sections 55” long for slats that run across the bed.\r
1 – 4x8 piece of Plywood = 1 x $15 = $15\r
Frame Subtotal: $44.33\r
Fasteners\r
Wood Screws = 1 box * $8 = $8 – Used wherever Screws were needed.\r
12 – 90 degree framing angles = 12 x .58 = $6.96 – Used to attach slats to frame\r
4 – 90 degree angles (bigger) = 4 x .74 = $2.96 – Anchor Bed to Floor\r
8- 3/8 x 4-in bolts and 8 3/8 nuts = 8 x .50 (bolts) = $4.00 8 x .12 = $1.00 (nuts)\r
Fasteners Subtotal: $22.92\r
\r
Total: $96.97\r
\r
Ladder\r
\r
2 – 2x4x92 5/8 – 2 * 2.39 = $4.78 – Two legs cut at an angle\r
1 – 2x4*105 – 1*2.52 = $2.52 – Cut into 7 sections 14” each.\r
Ladder Total: $7.30\r
