South Koreans honor mothers and fathers on Parents' Day

It's Parents' Day here in Korea.
An occasion that dates back to 1973... when it replaced Mother's Day.
It's celebrated both publicly and privately.
One of the most popular ways to honor parents is to give them carnations.
The Korean government marked the day by awarding commendations to several people for their display of exceptional devotion to their parents.
One of them was recognized for taking care of her disabled mother for 40 years,... helping to raise her own siblings while taking care of her own children.
Some expected this day to be a holiday this year, like Children's Day -- an election pledge made by President Moon Jae-in -- but the government hasn't made the change yet.
