In 1893, Antonín Dvořák was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic to write Symphony No.9, "From the New World;" a composition which spread his reputation worldwide. Dvořák was influenced by Native American music and the African-American spirituals and inspired by American wide open spaces such as the prairies of Iowa.
Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 in E Minor has been used in films including in the 1995 film 'Underground' and the 2010 film 'Four Lions'.
