Rival parties in South Korea divided over Panmunjom Declaration
  • 6 years ago
After the leaders of the two Koreas announced the Panmunjom Declaration, lawmakers of South Korea's political parties seem to have had mixed reactions towards it.
The ruling Democratic Party of Korea praised the statement, claiming that the declaration will not only change the relations between the two Koreas, but become a historic turning point that will bring big changes to the Korean Peninsula.
The minor opposition Bareun Mirae Party also reacted positively, with lawmakers calling it a highly symbolic act that touched the hearts of the people.
However, the main opposition Liberty Korea Party criticized the move, claiming that the declaration was all talk and no action, pointing out that it does not contain any details about how North Korea would denuclearize.
