From Quito: Adrian Bonilla

In today's program, we continue analyzing the violence along Ecuador's border with Colombia. An armed group has claimed responsability for the latest kidnapping. Just after they'd announced the death of a group of journalists they'd kidnapped earlier in the area. The strategy chosen by the government of Ecuador seems to be a show of force; sending more troops to the border, and announcing deadlines for the armed group to turn themselves in. For a country that has enjoyed relative peace throughout the armed conflict in Colombia, is this the right way to fight the violence? To see some other another angles on this issue, we have Adrian Bonilla, research professor at the Latin American Faculty of Social Sciences in Quito.
