Trump Says He Prefers A Popular Vote Election Over One Decided By Electoral College

President Trump on Thursday said he would prefer an election that’s decided by the popular vote over one determined by the Electoral College system.

President Trump on Thursday said he would prefer an election that's decided by the popular vote over one determined by the Electoral College system.  "We won the election. And we won it easily. A lot of people say, 'Oh, it was close.' They also like to always talk about [the] Electoral College," Trump noted in an interview with Fox & Friends.
"Well, it's an election based on the Electoral College," the president further commented. "I would rather have a popular election, but it's a totally different campaign."  He went on to assert that an election by popular vote is "much easier to win."  Though Trump lost the 2016 popular vote by roughly 3 million votes, he has presented some alternative takes on that situation.  "If the election were based on total popular vote I would have campaigned in N.Y., Florida and California and won even bigger and more easily," Trump said in a post-election tweet. He has also asserted on a number of occasions that Hillary Clinton received millions of more votes because millions of people voted illegally.
That claim has yet to be substantiated.
