The SC today will hear centre's plea seeking quashing of FIR against Major Aditya in the Shopian case. The Supreme Court had earlier halted further investigation in the January 27 Shopian firing incident and had directed the state govt to not investigate the case till further orders were issued. The Court had said that major Aditya is an army officer and not an ordinary citizen and so he should be treated in a dignified manner. In its plea, the Centre stated that the state government cannot launch a criminal prosecution against an army officer without its approval under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
