President Trump has tweeted about a rally he will be holding instead of attending the annual White House Correspondents’ dinner.

President Trump on Saturday tweeted about a rally he will be holding instead of attending the annual White House Correspondents' Dinner.
"Join me in Washington, Michigan on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at 7:00pm!" Trump wrote on Twitter.
According to the Detroit Metro Times, the event will take place at Total Sports Park in Macomb County which preferred Trump over Democratic rival Hillary Clinton by a margin of 12 points.
Trump's absence from the media-focused night was announced weeks ago in a statement which said, in part, "...the president does not plan to participate in this year's dinner but...he will actively encourage members of the executive branch to attend and join us as we celebrate the First Amendment."
It added that White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders "will represent the administration at the head table."
Despite the supportive message, this will be the second year in a row the dinner is held without Trump who has, in the past, blasted what he calls the "fake news media."
This sentiment was echoed by his campaign's chief operating officer, Michael Glassner, who said about the forthcoming Trump rally, "While the fake news media will be celebrating themselves with the denizens of Washington society in the swamp that evening, President Trump will be in a completely different Washington, celebrating our national economic revival with patriotic Americans."
