Siberian tiger in Hungary gets the first stem cell treatment

A Siberian tiger receives the first stem-cell treatment for its joint. 13-year-old Igor was suffering from hip joint pain for many years when doctors decided to finally give him the treatment which is generally for humans. Igor lives in a zoo in Szeged, a town in southern Hungary. In stem cell treatment, fatty tissues from patient’s body are used to cure the injured joints. These fatty tissues contain regenerative stem cells which are injected into the joints. Doctors hope that this treatment will help him. It may take 2-3 weeks to see whether the treatment is successful.
