Parkland Shooting Survivor Becomes First to File Victim Lawsuit Anthony Borges, a student at Marjory Stoneman Douglas, is the first to file a civil lawsuit against shooter Nikolas Cruz and other entities after surviving five shots during the Feb. 14 shooting. Borges’s attorney Alex Arreaza told CBS Miami Cruz’s late mother, Lynda, is also a defendant in the suit, as well as several mental health facilities. “When [Lynda] didn't address this problem with her kid, eventually 17 people paid with their lives.” “They had all the warning signs over there. They even at one point cleared him.” The Borges family will also sue Cruz’s adoptive parents, James and Kimberly Snead, who knew about Nikolas’s AR-15, which was kept in a safe in their home. “He's bringing an AR-15. This is a serious rifle. You have the responsibility to ask questions.” CBS Miami confirmed the Borges’ are seeking $15,000 in damages.
