President Trump issued many thanks to President Xi Jinping of China on Tuesday, including for "his enlightenment on intellectual property." "Very thankful for President Xi of China's kind words on tariffs and automobile barriers...also, his enlightenment on intellectual property and technology transfers. We will make great progress together!" Trump's tweet read.
The tweet came hours after Xi said China would work to better protect intellectual property, an issue Trump has been rather vocal about, notes CNN Money. The Chinese leader also addressed the other issues Trump mentioned, including a lowering of tariffs on imported vehicles and other products.  Xi's address was apparently well received by Wall Street, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average showing signs of rebounding after a period of notable declines, reports The Guardian. The downward direction began after Trump announced a plan to increase tariffs as a measure to even out the United States' trade deficit with China, sparking fears of a trade war.
