Report: Kelly Told Trump That Pruitt Should Step Down

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday that John Kelly told President Trump that Scott Pruitt should step down.
The Wall Street Journal on Friday shed more light on differing views in the White House concerning Scott Pruitt, who has recently faced scrutiny over a number of issues, including his $50 a night condo deal with the wife of an energy lobbyist.
"White House Chief of Staff John Kelly told President Donald Trump last week that he is convinced Environmental Protection Agency chief Scott Pruitt needs to step down after a series of negative reports about his spending habits and management style, a White House official said Friday," the Journal reported.
The president, however, appears to hold a different view based on his earlier tweet on Friday in which he wrote that Pruitt has done "a great job but is TOTALLY under siege."
The White House has given a mixed message amid speculation over Pruitt's departure.
While Trump told reporters on Thursday he still has confidence in the embattled EPA chief, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders gave a more nuanced response regarding Pruitt's future.
"We are reviewing the situation. When we have had the chance to have a deeper dive on that, we will let you know the outcomes of that," Sanders said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
