White House Responds To Stock Market Decline: 'We Are Focused On The Long-Term Economic Principles'

Sarah Huckabee Sanders was asked on Friday if President Trump's actions are responsible for the recent stock market decline.

Amid the stock market turmoil over international trade tensions, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said on Friday that the Trump administration is "focused on the long-term economic principles."
FOX's White House Correspondent, Jon Decker, asked Sanders at a press briefing, "The Dow is down nearly 4,000 points since January the 26th. Does the President, does the administration believe that any of that decline is attributable to any of the President's actions concerning the tariffs that the President has announced on steel and aluminum; perhaps the tariffs the President intends to impose upon China?"
"We're focused on the long-term economic principles," Sanders responded. "Let's be clear: The tariffs that we're talking about with China have not been implemented and are months away. The President has cleared the way for a strong economic environment through the tax cuts, through deregulation."
Trump himself has scoffed at suggestions that his administration's actions have led to trade tensions and recent stock market decline.
"We are not in a trade war with China, that war was lost many years ago by the foolish, or incompetent, people who represented the U.S. Now we have a Trade Deficit of $500 Billion a year, with Intellectual Property Theft of another $300 Billion. We cannot let this continue!" Trump tweeted on Wednesday.
