Trump: Pruitt Is 'Doing A Great Job But Is Totally Under Siege'

President Trump appeared to defend Scott Pruitt in a tweet on Friday.

President Trump took to Twitter on Friday and defended Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt, who has recently faced scrutiny over a number of issues, included his $50 a night condo deal with the wife of an energy lobbyist.
"Do you believe that the Fake News Media is pushing hard on a story that I am going to replace A.G. Jeff Sessions with EPA Chief Scott Pruitt, who is doing a great job but is TOTALLY under siege? Do people really believe this stuff? So much of the media is dishonest and corrupt!" Trump tweeted.
His tweet appears to be in reference to a CNN story published on Thursday that noted, "Trump floated replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions with Scott Pruitt as recently as this week, even as the scandal-ridden head of the Environmental Protection Agency has faced a growing list of negative headlines, according to people close to the President."
The White House has given a mixed message amid speculation over Pruitt's departure.
While Trump told reporters on Thursday he still has confidence in the embattled EPA chief, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders gave a more nuanced response regarding Pruitt's future.
"We are reviewing the situation. When we have had the chance to have a deeper dive on that, we will let you know the outcomes of that," Sanders said at a press briefing on Wednesday.
