Massive protests erupt in Chennai; SC will insure TN's share of Cauvery water — The X Factor
  • 6 years ago
The war over the Cauvery river water is intensifying. The latest flashpoint? The failure of the BJP led Centre to meet the Supreme Court’s 6 week deadline to set up a Cauvery Water Management Board that would monitor the sharing of the Cauvery waters among the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry. Of course, the real battle is between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. All opposition parties in Tamil Nadu led by the DMK have united on this issue and are mounting pressure on both the state govt and the Centre. DMK working President M K Stalin staged protests in Chennai yesterday even courting arrest. He’s called for a state wide bandh on April 5.
