Nation held hostage amid 'bharat bandh', govt hikes petrol prices to a 4-year high and more
  • 6 years ago
Violent protests erupted today during a nationwide bandh called by several Dalit organisations against the alleged dilution of the SCs/STs Act. The violent protests hit life across the country with incidents of arson and vandalism reported from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab, among other states.

Fuel prices have gone up further, resulting in petrol hitting a fresh four-year high and diesel climbing to an all-time record high in Delhi. The last time petrol prices were at an all time high was in September 2013 when it was Rs 76.06 per litre in the city.

As protests take centre stage in Tamil Nadu and Chennai, it seems like the Dravida Nadu dream has been long forgotten. It's South Vs South as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka continue to fight over the distribution of Cauvery water.
