SC decides to set up 5-judge constitution bench to deal with the Nikah Halala and polygamy

The Supreme Court has agreed to examine the constitutional validity of the practice of polygamy and Nikah Halala among Muslims and has sought views from the centre and the law commission. The Supreme Court has decided to set up a 5-judge constitution bench to deal with the constitutionality of Nikah Halala and polygamy. The 4 PILs were filed by Sameena Begum of Delhi, BJP leader and Social Activist Ashiwini Kumar Upadhyaya and two others urging the apex court to declare both the practices as the violation of fundamental rights.
