FTC Investigating Facebook Over Cambridge Analytica Scandal
  • 6 years ago

According to Bloomberg, the United States Federal Trade Commission is now investigating Facebook over its use of people's personal data. An anonymous source adds the commission will examine whether Facebook violated consumer consent in handling the data. The FTC, the lead U.S. agency for enforcing companies’ privacy policies, could fine Facebook millions of dollars if it finds it violated a 2011 consent decree. The site is currently drawing heavy scrutiny over how the personal data of around 50 million users were obtained by data analytics firm Cambridge Analytica, which worked with Donald Trump's presidential campaign.
