No flights or trains for people with bad social credit in China

BEIJING — China is curbing the transportation rights of people with poor "social credit."

Effective May 1, the country will ban citizens with low social credit scores from using flight and rail transport for one year.

According to Reuters, those banned include individuals who lied about terrorism, caused trouble on flights as well as people who used out-of-date tickets, or smoked on trains. Also affected are people who didn't pay fines and employers not paying social insurance.

China's yet-to-be finalized social credit system operates on the doctrine of "once untrustworthy, always restricted", reported Reuters.
