8. The Elephant Savoirs\r
Elephants are symbols of peace in a lot countries but for some people, they only see their tusks as dollar sign. These graceful creatures only want to be left in peace. An elephant approached a safari lodge in a last resort attempt to be saved, pleading for help after it had been shot by poachers, even if humans were the last species it would have asked for help from. Luckily, it approached the right people and they removed the bullet that was lodged in its shoulder. The bullet wounds were treated and its luckily to escape this incident with its life. It now has a group of trusty friends it can rely on in the future. \r

7. Jonathan the Tortoise\r
With proper care, some animals can live long and healthy lives when having good relationships with humans. This giant tortoise from the Island of St. Helena has lived an amazing life since the 1800s with an age of 184! Thats most that twice as long as most humans will live and its partially thanks to a veterinarian who caters to his every whim. Jonathan is fed a healthy diet apples, carrots, cucumbers, bananas and guava on a daily basis. Although hes gone partially blind due to his catars, he always knows when his best friend is around to bring him loving care. \r

While goats can be annoying to some people, to others, they can be an endless source of entertainment and even a trustworthy friend. Although they might eat all the grass you have in your backyard, that doesnt mean it doesnt enjoy your company. Goats will continue to be one of mankinds best allies.\r

This unlikely friendship appears to be genuine and one of a kind. Relationships like these draw tourists from around the world. They first met when chito rescued the croc, Pocho, and brought him back to life as he was on the verge of death. Poncho was in the crosshairs of cattle farmers who were trying to protect their livestock. He risked his life to save this 900 pound reptile and now has someone he can call a true friend. Poncho unfortunately passed away on october 11, new but therell always be a place for him in Chitos heart. \r

Its amazing how many things we have in common with these unbelievable animals. Its no wonder how humans can have such emotional and connected bonds with primates who share much of the same DNA as us. Dr Charlotte Uhlenbroek visited the gorillas of Uganda in 2000. This British Zoologist has rightfully pushed for the conservation primates around the world after spending 4 years living and communicating with chimpanzees and gorillas. Someone like her understand the importance of humans becoming one with nature and the struggles to preserve their habitat.
