How the Oscar Trophies Are Made Before your favorite actors take hold of Oscars gold, The trophies go through a three-month manufacturing process, starting with a 3-D wax print mold. Along the way they are: • dipped 10 times into ceramic and then fired, creating a shell • Hot bronze is then poured into the shell and after cooling, the ceramic is broken away Next, they are sanded and polished Following these steps, the trophies go to Epner Technology, where they are electroplated in 24 carat gold. Epner Technology in Brooklyn and Polich Tallix in upstate New York are in charge of the crafting the 13.5 inch tall, 8.5 pound prize.
