UN Security Council Passes 30-Day Syria Ceasefire The United Nations unanimously approved the ceasefire after more than 500 people were killed in Syria this past week. But shortly after the vote by the 15-member council warplanes struck a city in eastern Ghoutta. Syria's ally, Russia, claimed an immediate ceasefire was unrealistic.
