LGA issues guidelines for spotting 'fake news'
The Local Government Association (LGA) has outlined guidance to residents to help them distinguish between legitimate information from councils and 'fake news', urging people to follow a 'three-stage fact-check' to ask 'Who', 'How', and 'What' in regard to any online information received. This follows a recent report by the National Cyber Security Centre which found council websites to be some of the most targeted in the public sector, although hardly any attacks are successful. Cllr Michael Payne, Deputy Chair of the LGA, explains how residents can spot 'fake news' and why council websites are a target for cyber-attacks Report by Jonesia.
