Joss Whedon is officially stepping down as the writer and director of DC’s live-action Batgirl movie.

Whedon confirmed his departure from Batgirl with a statement, issued exclusively to THR.

According to him, the story just wasn't there.

Batgirl is such an exciting project, and Warners/DC such collaborative and supportive partners, that it took me months to realize I really didn’t have a story.
