Woman runs 7 marathons on 7 continents dressed as 7 different fruits

Until recently, Sally Orange had the Guinness Book Of World Records for the fastest female to complete a Marathon dressed as a piece of fruit.

But after Lorna Pursglove, who was dressed as a Chili Pepper ran faster in the 2017 London Marathon, she set herself a new challenge - to run seven marathons on seven continents, dressed as seven different fruits.

Her first marathon as a piece of fruit was in Afghanistan back in 2011, when she was dressed as a banana. Then she ran the US Marine Corps Marathon dressed as a watermelon, London was a strawberry, Africa a pineapple, New Zealand a kiwi fruit, and for her penultimate Marathon in Argentina she was dressed as a bunch of grapes.

For the final continent, the former British Army Major and now freelance Physiotherapist decided on a pear costume. She took on the snow, ice and sub-zero temperatures of the Antarctic Ice Marathon in November 2017 with 55 other competitors.

All her seven runs were for the Royal Foundation "Heads Together" campaign, which increases awareness of mental health issues.

This weekend Orange will run another marathon dressed as an avocado.

She hopes to inspire young people to participate and show that sport can be fun and doesn’t have to be competitive.
