The National Rifle Association shared an image of a Kentucky billboard spray-painted with the words "Kill the NRA" and issued a warning to "all American gun owners," reports the Associated Press. "This is a wakeup call. They're coming after us. Like and share to spread the word," NRA wrote in a Facebook post on Monday. The message comes less than a week after the shooting at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which claimed 17 lives. Students of the school have taken the lead in the discussion about how to put an end to the nation's growing mass shooting problem, with many calling for legislative solutions.  Some have also chastised politicians who appear reluctant to consider gun access as a part of the issue. CNN reports that David Hogg, one of the students, noted, "We've sat around too long being inactive in our political climate, and as a result, children have died."
"If our elected officials are not willing to stand up and say, 'I'm not going to continue to take money from the NRA because children are dying,' they shouldn't be in office…" Hogg also said.
In 2016, the NRA reportedly donated roughly $54 million to politicians, with $30 million going to Donald Trump and rest being largely split between six Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate, according to Politico.
