Adoption rates in India continue to fall, and most cite procedural delays as a key reason. In 2013-14, 3,924 children were placed for adoption, fewer than the 4,964 in 2012-13 and fewer still than 5,964 children of the previous year, Union Minister of Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi stated in the Lok Sabha in July this year.
