He finished filming his role as former US Vice President Dick Cheney in the movie Backseat in December.
But Christian Bale, 44, who gained 40 pounds for the part, appeared to have retained the extra weight as he grabbed a Valentine's Day gift in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
The Batman Begins actor looked heavier than usual as he stepped out in T-shirt, shorts and slip on shoes.
