New Supersonic Plane Could Fly from New York to London in 3 Hours The plane, called the "Son of the Concorde" or a Low-Boom Flight Demonstrator (LBFD), is a NASA product that is capable of breaking the sound barrier without creating a massive sonic boom. The plane is only in the experimental phase but recently got funding from the U.S. government to build it out, with its first test run planned for 2021. This [plane] would open a new market for U.S. companies to build faster commercial airliners, creating jobs and cutting cross-country flight times in half. If the test run goes well, the plane could be cleared for commercial use soon after.
