Union finance minister Arun Jaitley delivered his Budget speech in Hindi on Thursday. By doing so, Jaitley becomes the first finance minister of the country to deliver his speech in Hindi since independence. According to a reports the decision to deliver speech in Hindi is to reach out to the rural population, especially the farmers, who are mighty miffed with the Narendra Modi government. Moreover, this is the last full budget of the Modi government. The populist way of deciding to speak in Hindi is likely to strike a chord with the voters ahead of the Lok Sabha elections 2019.
