Massive Earthquake Strikes Alaska's Coast The 7.9 magnitude quake initially triggered tsunami warnings on the West Coast which were cancelled after forecasters further investigated the threat. Alaskan authorities reported tsunami waves less than 1 foot. A tsunami warning was earlier in effect for California, Oregon and Washington.
