An earthquake of magnitude 8.2 struck 250 km southeast of Chiniak in Alaska, according to U.S. Geological Survey earthquake on Tuesday morning. A tsunami warning has been issued. The quake hit 157 miles southeast of Chiniak at about 12.30am local time. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said, "Based on all available data a tsunami may have been generated by this earthquake that could be destructive on coastal areas even far from the epicenter." It was at a depth of 10km, the US Geological Survey reported. It prompted a tsunami warning for parts of Alaska and Canada as well as a tsunami watch for the entire US west coast.
