Congress Passes Bill to End Government Shutdown The spending bill received the necessary 60 votes on Monday with the help of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer. The deal would allow the government to re-open until Feb. 8, giving lawmakers the opportunity to negotiate a long-term solution. Republicans and Democrats. The shutdown is on its third day, with many of its full effects less visible during the weekend, when much of the federal workforce would typically be off anyway. The bill will now head to President Trump's desk for approval.
